Let’s Face It – Life is Crazzeee
Hannah often makes me little gifts and notes to open at work. Yesterday she made me a “game gift” with which I could design a variety of paper faces.
Instructions
Face Making Kit
- The kit has pieces of a face
- You get to create your own wacky face
- So you know what is is it is labeled on the back!
Start creating!
This face from her kit pretty much represents how I feel lately – wild-eyed, frayed, a little green and often with my nose out of joint. If our 10 days in St. Pete is not waived – we’re talking being away from Rachel, Lois and Hannah from May 7 – May 24 while Keith and I count the days in an apartment in St. Pete, waiting for the adoption of Guanna-to-be-Julia to be finalized so we three can go onto Moscow and then home. That makes me feel about as crazee as this facial representation looks.
All it needs is a pair of 11N Naturalizers and a Diet Coke….
The only thing that keeps me sane is looking at another face – that of Guanna-to-be-Julia. I wish I could post a picture of her pretty little face, but I can’t – not until she’s ours. Keith and I know she is meant to be part of our family. We are so anxious to have her home and to start getting her ready for kindergarten which starts August 14.
Her face is supposed to be at our breakfast table. It’s supposed to rest on the floor pillow in the den embroidered with her name. It’s supposed to be dried on the new Nemo towel in the bathroom. It’s supposed to be peeking out from under the covers of the bunkbed.
When you shut the eyes of your face tonight, please picture her here with her family - and pray our 10 days is waived.
Here Come Da Judge!
We have a court date in St. Petersburg – May 10! Yes, I know that’s not in April, so, obviously no one could have guessed it. An AT&T friend - Janet Shadd – came the closest with her April 28 entry. So, Janet – expect a fabulous prize from St. Petersburg!
Speaking of which….please be praying that our adoption is final on May 10, and not 10 days later. The judge can decree it either way. If it’s final on May 10, we’ll wait for some paperwork, then scoop Guanna-to-be-Julia off to Moscow for processing, then home to San Antonio. We could be home in a week. If it’s final in 10 days….we’ll have to return home to San Antonio without Guanna-to-be-Julia, then return at the 10-day mark to get her and continue onto Moscow. In the meantime, we’ll also be (quickly and quietly) visiting a few dimly-lit convenience stores……
By May 10, we will have entered the 89th week of this “paper pregnancy.” Guanna-To-Be-Julia will be the first child we’ve had without my grabbing some passerby’s lapels and growling “EPIDURRRRAL!” (Though my boss has told me repeatedly that I need to drink more.)
Whoo-whoo, got some more paperwork to do - I guess this is called “labor.”

If our lives were being played out in Candyland right now, we’d be in the space next to the ice cream bar. In Monopoly, we’d be rolling for Boardwalk. In Trivial Pursuit, we’d have all our pies and be hoping the other team didn’t pick “Sports and Leisure” when we got to the middle.
But instead – we play the “Waiting for Guanna” game. -sigh-
Earlier this week, Hannah crafted an eight-page booklet about Guanna, answering questions such as, “What size is Guanna?” (answer: 4/5) and “Does Guanna have friends in Russia?” (answer: yes) and the most importantly: “Who’s (sic) room will she sleep in?” (answer: mine/Hannah’s) Today she created a four-panel game board - complete with game pieces – for Guanna to play, with a different learning exercise in each quad: “Special Shapes,” “Colorful Squares,” “Number Path,” and “Matching Game.”
We all wish Guanna were here right now to play it. -sigh-
Buckner still thinks we will travel in April to bring her home. We hope so. I had held off blogging, just so sure I would be announcing that her release letter had arrived in St. Pete from Moscow and that our court date was set.
No dice this week.
I am tired of lingering at the lollipop, going directly to jail without $200 and overshooting the middle.
Please be praying that we get a court date soon, and that the now-customary 10-day wait is waived for us.
We only win when we bring her home.

“Strawberry Milk” – one cow in Hannah’s herd – helped create this mooovelous gift. Speaking of games – look at the left nav and play “When Will Becky & Keith Be in Court?” You could win a fabulous prize from St. Petersburg! Everybody play! C’mon!
