How Things Change

It’s gone!  Keith has finished removing all carpeting from our house, with the exception of three closets.  One of those closets is under the stairs, and it’s emptied exactly once twice a year – dragging the Christmas tree and decorations out, and shoving all of that festivity back.  As far as I’m concerned, that carpeting can die there.  The thought of emptying that closet now sounds ho-ho-horrible to me.

Our living room-cum-Keith’s office.  He started replacing carpeting in 2001, going room-by-room as time and finances allowed. To the best of my knowledge, no photos exist of this area “before.”  I would have had to break the arms of any unwitting photographer.

Anyone who has ever been in our Houston or San Antonio homes knows exactly why this picture is so remarkable – you can actually see the floor from the game room vantage point.  It is not totally covered with boxes, wires, computer parts, papers, buckets, power tools, Diet Coke cans, aquarium pumps, tubing, receipts and stray pages of newspaper.

For our adoption-required dossier, we had to submit pictures of every room of our house.  I sort of – ummm – “forgot” to take a picture of the living room, hoping no Russian official would compare the floor plan to the submitted photos.  I didn’t think I could explain what that room was, nor how we’d keep our new girl safe from whatever beasties might be lurking in it.  Nobody asked, so I was successful.

Much of the hauled-out dusty mess was pre-San Antonio.  It must have come from our garage in Houston, which means it probably came from Keith’s garage in Sugar Land in the 80′s.  Like this newspaper flyer:

I called the toll-free number – not in service, darn it.  Suppose I could still get that sweet VHS deck for only $699.90?

Ohhhh…there’s a top-loader (Exclusive!) for only $499.90 – be still, my heart!  (And hooray for AT&T U-versePing me to find out more about it.)

Floor coverings….electronics….my, things do change!  Sometimes even for the better.Wink
