Flutterbys

The Easter Bunny brought Julia a butterfly kit – the kind where you provide food and a shelter, and send off for the caterpillars.   Julia’s spent part of every evening worrying over those fuzzy little bugs – feeding them sugar water, making sure they were not too hot or too cold – putting them near the light when they needed it.   Tonight, we let them go.

Julia is convinced they’ll fly back to visit.

They may come back to the pond to drink.   San Antonio is in a prolonged drought.

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how our family is changing with Rachel’s upcoming graduation from high school.  She’ll be only half-ours when she’s in college and after that – she’ll be responsible for her own food and shelter.  I’ve spent a chunk of every day worrying over this first baby bug – feeding her, making sure she wasn’t too hot or too cold – putting her near the light when she needed it.

Senior Awards last week – DECA State Competition in Fashion & Apparel, School Store Manager and Choir – Woot!  She was the very last of  300+ honorees (whew!), so, lots of applause!
Lois and Hannah are coming right up behind her, with Julia bringing up the rear.

You rear them to let them go.

But I, too, am hoping they “flutterby” often.

Becky – you are one fine person and you have been a flutterby – butterfly in our lives – one that is unconditionally loved – you and yours comprise one truly fine family

The new blog is great – congrats on your courage and effort for switiching and hosting. What a great family you and Keith have created and nurtured! Folowing along through your frequent posts is something we look forward to.

Hard to believe Rachel is old enough to fly solo soon. Hey Rach – it’s coupon clipping time! – LOL

We wish all of you and right now, especially Rachel, all the best life has to offer. May all the wonderful life lessons and wisdom you’ve imparted to her through the years guide her from here on out!

    Love to all,
    The McBees

Dear Becky, I know how you feel. when my son graduated High School I was so proud, but I knew also that he would eventually go off on his own and I would see him less often. He is still my son and still loves me and will always think of me as his real father, the one he relies on to tell him the truth. I miss him and wish he lived closer, but he lives whwere he does. he grew his wings and flew, it hurt, and I cried as did Terri, but we knew it must be. You have three more to ready for their going away. I had only the one. he doesn’t call often nor write at all, but he still thinks of me all the time. I think girls are more tied to their parents than boys are. Love her as much as you can before she goes, and let her know she is always loved even when she falls. Like one song I heard,” Let me tell you a secret about a parents, love a secret that my Daddy said was just between us, a parent doesn’t love their children every now and then, it is a love without end,Amen.”

    well…..

i’m here to tell you that they DO flutter-back-by and just about put you over the edge.

sorry, it’s been a pretty intense 24 hours of re-entry for everybody around here. i love my two college students, but they are way more complicated and exhausting than my two preschoolers, no question.

enjoy the summer. is she going away to school?

I’m so glad you signed me up! And seeing what a cool web site you have makes me want to try to do something for my own… I work at a computer software company and develop web-based software… you’d think I’d be on top of it… not!!! Not enough time in the day I guess and when I do have spare time, I really enjoy scrapbooking. Mom and Joyce got me hooked right after Nikki was born. Loved the video clip of Julia with the butterflies… we did that w/ Nikki last summer. Julia is a doll! I’ve seen pictures but video is even better. Thanks for sharing!!

  • Johnnie:

    Becky,
It’s all about “Roots and Wings”! You and Keith have done a wonderful job giving the healthy, well-watered roots and Rachel
    will fly beautifully!

    Love the butterflies!
    xxoo, jd

  • sharon:

Wonder if Keith will be as matter-of-fact when it’s time for Rachel to fly away ;-)

  • Alanna:

    Hey Becky,
I imagine it’s bittersweet having Rachel graduate. I know you and Keith have done a wonderful job as her parents, preparing her for life. I find myself often feeling that Gabrielle’s “new” things are bittersweet. One, happy, in that she is doing something new and also a little sad, because that means she is growing up and not so little anymore. She is already getting so big, 39 inches tall!!! Woodworth genes!! She is in the 95th percentile for height. I do miss her being a baby, but I am also enjoying each stage, some a little more than others! LOL! I don’t think I’ll miss potty training too much!
She is already ready to come to school with Mommy, and she will in just one more year- to pre-K!!!!! Yikes!!!!

  • Sandra:

    Becky,
I love the new blog. Thanks for signing me up. Congratulations to Rachel and to you and Keith for bringing her this far. I’ve learned to savor every moment because time passes so quickly.

    xoxo

  • I tried to send you this a couple of times using the “Contact” button in the left panel, but it keeps giving me a failure message. You might want to check that.

Anyway, I saw this and thought of you guys…
