Works of Art

We have new works of art around here this week.

Lois has hung (yet another) work of art of her anime-covered wall – a certificate of membership in the Latin Junior Classical League – Latin Honor Society.  She’ll be coming at state soon.  Retty-pray oolcay, huh?

A tasty work of art:  Hannah just completed her 4th cake decorating class.  This week’s theme:  The 80′s.  Yellow cake colored purple (top) and pink (bottom) with green almond icing and a “Saved by the Bell” sunglasses theme.  Cakes just want to have fuh-unn.

Julia came home yesterday with a “World War 2 Guy” American solider she had drawn in class, complete with secret weapons like a body shield and “gets bigger when thrown” star.   A great addition to my refrigerator works of art, and interesting because…..

….my cousin Clyde – whom I re-discovered on Facebook – had recently sent me this picture he had of a real World War II guy – my dad (Navy subs) plus my mom.  I’d never seen it before, and I treasure it.

Rachel is a work of art in and of herself – plus she’s KIN’s “Employee of the Month” at her elementary school.  Working in the after-school program is great training for her future job as teacher.  She needs a good job so she can afford to buy her mother nice gifts.

Bottles

Finally – this future work of art.  Keith has been saving liquor bottles for two weeks.  He’ll heat and shatter them, mixing them in concrete as a platform base for his  outdoor cooking Egg. I’m sure it’ll be gorgeous – no kidding.  But I love it that he leaves the bottles on the counter, as I’m sure it gives the kids’ visiting friends something to talk about when they go home. (hic)
