Works of Art

We have new works of art around here this week.

Lois has hung (yet another) work of art of her anime-covered wall – a certificate of membership in the Latin Junior Classical League – Latin Honor Society.  She’ll be coming at state soon.  Retty-pray oolcay, huh?

A tasty work of art:  Hannah just completed her 4th cake decorating class.  This week’s theme:  The 80′s.  Yellow cake colored purple (top) and pink (bottom) with green almond icing and a “Saved by the Bell” sunglasses theme.  Cakes just want to have fuh-unn.

Julia came home yesterday with a “World War 2 Guy” American solider she had drawn in class, complete with secret weapons like a body shield and “gets bigger when thrown” star.   A great addition to my refrigerator works of art, and interesting because…..

….my cousin Clyde – whom I re-discovered on Facebook – had recently sent me this picture he had of a real World War II guy – my dad (Navy subs) plus my mom.  I’d never seen it before, and I treasure it.

Rachel is a work of art in and of herself – plus she’s KIN’s “Employee of the Month” at her elementary school.  Working in the after-school program is great training for her future job as teacher.  She needs a good job so she can afford to buy her mother nice gifts.

Bottles

Finally – this future work of art.  Keith has been saving liquor bottles for two weeks.  He’ll heat and shatter them, mixing them in concrete as a platform base for his  outdoor cooking Egg. I’m sure it’ll be gorgeous – no kidding.  But I love it that he leaves the bottles on the counter, as I’m sure it gives the kids’ visiting friends something to talk about when they go home. (hic)

  • Hannah:

i like that picture of grandma:D

  • BNS:

I love all of it! It is hard to choose between the picture of Grandma or Hannah’s cake. They both hit me in different ways :) I think it is awsome that Hannah is taking a cake decorating class – whooo-hooo! I will expect an amazing creation when we come for our visit next week.

The bottles are beautiful especially the blue ones. I can’t wait to have Keith tell us all about his latest project. I have always loved mosaics and in my next phase of life I would really like to take a class to learn more about how to do it. It is like quilting in so many ways.

Anyway, your children are amazing and it is just a testimony to their parents that they have turned out that way :)

  • rachel wyoming:

wow, my face is a work of art. crafted by God himself.
sometimes, i am so beautiful, that i have to look away or else i’ll be there for hours…

  • sharon:

I can never get over how much you look like your mom!

All of the art is fabulous- wouldn’t have expected anything different from any of them!

  • Konen:

I love all the art, too. Something from every member of your family — except you!
How about some retro Becky (I know you are too busy for art these days)?
Por exemple: fingernails or artsy photos (visual art), or Becky as Michael Jackson (performance art), or fudge or caramel corn (tasty art). We’ll not dwell on Christmas stocking decorated with glued on glitter.
Let’s face it — the whole family is an artistic wonder.

  • Hey Jude:

Good grief! You people are amazing! I want to scarf up Lois’s art … bring Rachel home with me, tell Julia that we actually won WWII, and eat Hannah’s cake! In the meantime, I see Lois all over Mother’s face! And, by the way, I wouldn’t want to get in Mother’s way … with those socks and shoes … she looks like she was IN the war!

P.S. And where, pray tell, did Keith GET all of those liquor bottles in a week? Should I start looking under Houston bridges to add to the collection? Or, maybe just outside of Spec’s?

  • Barbara:

I loved the art stories. The best, was the last. So that is a 2-week collection? I bet if Keith really put his mind to it, he could have a greater variety of colored bottles……The sacrifice one makes for the love of creating art. Let me know if you need help collecting more colors.

  • John Tigner:

wonderful pictures, I gave clyde copies to put on disc, I also have others. These pictures are very sacred to me.

  • Clyde Tigner:

Lois needs to check out our son’s website. He is now in Japan and his room here if full of Anime and Manga. Stephen is a big anime fan!!! He even goes to “cons” (Atlanta, Seattle, etc.). His blog on Japan is stephentigner.com

I am certain he would like to become acquainted with Lois.

  • Kaitlin:

Creativity = Woodworth, I love that pic of your mom also — that must have been so special to see it for the first time.
