The Pool Rules

One of my favorite things about living in San Antonio is our neighborhood pool.  We’re there almost every weekend, plus a weeknight or two.   It’s the largest in the area (other than at the country club, to which we don’t belong – imagine that.)

The water is cool , the neighbors are warm and Julia’s diving is hot.

Here’s what I’ve learned at our neighborhood pool:

10. You can learn to dance by going barefoot on the walk to the car.

9.  If you want a dry book, read at the library.

8.  A Sonic Route 44 Diet Cherry Limeade tastes best with a dash of chlorine.

7.  C-sections really did used to be vertical, didn’t they?

6.  Nothing says “roll down the windows” like a forgotten, wet, lotion-greased towel baked in the car overnight.

5.   A splashed pizza box and napkins dumped in the trash can is my favorite way to do Friday night dishes.

4.  When the middle school boys arrive – it’s time to go.

3.  “Woe to she who adjusteth my goggles strap.”  1st Rebecca 6:5

2.  I wish everything in my life could smell like Dreamsicle-y  Ocean Potion 30.

And the #1 thing I’ve learned:

1.  The extra-warm baby pool is to be avoided.

I hope you come to our pool..no middle school boys only one here and he would love the company.

  • Your girls are so fortunate…my fondest childhood memories are my grandmother walking me to the pool. It was at least two miles and the sun glared. Nevertheless, with her parasol, we went every day at 2:00.
Blessings are not related to the country club.

We love our pool too! Since my kiddos are so much younger, our favorite time of day is the early evening. Sandwiches poolside, lots of swimming, and baths, pjs and nighty-night :) The pool is the best kid-wearer-out around!

Yea summer!!! The best thing about summer is days spent at the pool, reading a good book and jumping in the pool when you get really hot. Although, lately, I just stand in the pool and read. The middle school boys know to stay away from me…..

Thanks, once again, for making us all smile and trigerring good memories. We didn’t have a neighborhood pool, so having my big sister drive me all the way to the Alamo Heights pool was a big treat. After swimming, it was off to get a snow cone – grape was my favorite. The worst summer of my young life was when I broke my arm on June 21 – the day before my 7th birthday. I had to spend the whole summer in a cast. But the worst thing was watching all my little friends at my BD party, splashing in the wading pool I had begged for as my present and couldn’t get near, because I couldn’t get my cast wet! Somehow I survived, and that pool stayed in the family for many years

Great diving Julia! She swims like a dolphin! I haven’t had my first summer swim yet! Looking forward to it! Happy Summer Woodworths!

  • I have not visited you blog in awhile, so I have been playing catch up! Looks like you all are off to a great start for the summer. And man, that is a big pool! Where in SA is it? My precious god-son attended the VBS at your church and had a grand time! Ya’ll always put on a good VBS. Sorry to see Rach had a accident..but so glad she is ok!
