Laugh. Think. Repeat as Needed.
I used to entertain lofty visions for myself including living in a perpetual state of thankfulness for God’s goodness. I would view each challenge as an opportunity to grow spiritually, emotionally, physically and mentally. My children would learn patience, mercy and gratitude at my knee. I would never take my blessings for granted.
Fast forward to the last two weeks. I’ve left no challenge uncursed. My children have have endured my stress, judgment and exhaustion. From a mysterious “Walking Dead” rash on my face to the torn pantyhose encasing my tired toes - I have just stumbled and grumbled through each day, allowing activity and worry to suck my joy. Until tonight – when Rachel showed me her latest doodle. Her “What I’m Thankful For” list made me do my two favorite things: laugh and think.
If I composed my own Top 50 list, it wouldn’t contain “25 Wiggling My Ears,” or “38 Guinea Pigs.” But it would certainly include “2 My Family.”
I’m surprised “Sunglasses” didn’t make her list. She’s always loved them.
Thank you, Rachel – and everyone – who makes me laugh and think.
If I had a list – the good kind! – you’d be on it.

What a wonderful list to lift your spirits!!! I love it, and Rachel, and you for sharing it with us and causing us to once again think about what we are thankful for in each of our lives!! Y’all are a fantastic family, and we are so-o-o-o thankful to be able to share these tidbits with you!
AW MAN! if I had thought of sunglasses, that TOTALLY would have made the list. I seriously cannot live without them. Also on that list should have been- frozen yogurt, youtube, soccer, watermelon, and turtles.
Oh Rachel. Bless you for preparing this list and reminding us what is really important in life. When I think about what I am stressed about right now– it really should be dumped off of my to-do list. You’ve figured out what is important. And what true treasure is all about….. Thanks for the reminder.
Your girl gets it. She is awesome!
Very cool — not to mention thoughtful. I like the list — especially #48, sense of humor. I suspect that is actually way farther up the list.
On another note — hope your week improves.
I was just lamenting #40!!! Right there with you! I don’t get to take a hot shower for 72 hours and I sure did miss it tonight and it made me stop and think how much I take for granted.
Sunglasses, frozen yogurt with m&m’s on top would be up there too. And friends that encourage me along in life…. Like you do for the youth girls, Rachel. God has big plans for you.
Love to all the Woodworths
Hello Woodworths,
This young girl makes us all think and feel ashamed of our own grumblings. What a tribute to great Christian parents!
Loved the list–But mostly the glasses!!
Great list, Rachel! And Beck, surely we all share your aspirations and FALL SHORT
After seeing the Haiti pictures yesterday at SHBC, we have many, many things for which to be thankful. Thanks for the reminder! !
