Words from Hannah

I do love my iPhone.

I do love playing Words with Friends on my iPhone.

Photobucket

My usual WWF spot – the chair at the end of the dining room table – near the kitchen, where my purse sits on the counter near the i-charger.  I hear my iPhone ping in my purse….ohhhh, is that “Words with Friends” beckoning to me?  If I’ve got just one or two games – I stand, play and replace the phone in my purse.  More?  I usually sit down.  I try to play in a minute or less after I pick up the phone.   My brain is over-full of “to do’s” most days and unable to strategize.  I don’t want to “think.”  I just want to “play.”

I’ve loved connecting with people on Words with Friends.  My favorite opponents are:  Two cousins in Ft. Wayne.  A fellow adoptive mom in Tyler.  A long-time friend of the family in Lubbock.  A couple of local church friends, and a smattering of AT&T (or former AT&T, or AT&T-related) scattered friends.

My highest score ever:  121 points for “Starved.”

So, yes, I love it.  And perhaps spend a wee bit more time on it than I should.

But surely I’m not quite as bad as Hannah-the-cartoonist (and snarky photographer)  portrays me?

Or am I really that bad?!

Oh, excuse me…..”something” just pinged in my purse….I’ll be right back….or not…..

I didn’t know Rachel and Lois could do this.

It was time to do dishes.  Were they stalling?

Never.

The Artist Formerly Known as Rachel

One of the “fun” parts of parenthood is watching your kids discover their own talents – especially when those talents were totally unsuspected.

Rachel – a college sophomore – is required to take one art class to fulfill the fine arts requirement of her education major.  She signed up for “painting” grudgingly.  She’d never painted.  Didn’t expect to like it.  Grumbled about the timing, the location, the materials required, etc.

And guess what?  She’s loved it!

I’ve long said that she has a better “eye” than do I for composition.  Her photos are almost always better than mine.  BTW – Neither Keith nor I have any artistic talent whatsoever.  The last thing I painted was our driveway gate in Houston when we were trying to sell the house.

My seven-year-old great niece Laura snapped this picture of herself this summer with Rachel’s iPhone.  It’s blurry and kind of silly.  I would have deleted it.  Rachel saw something else in it, and, fortunately, kept it.

The original iPhone picture, snapped by seven-year-old Laura…whose birthday is today, BTW.  :-)

After sawing the wood for her own frame, stretching her own canvas and painting for 30 hours – here is Rachel’s rendition of – and commentary about -  Laura’s iPhone picture.

Used to be, I hung her “art” on the fridge.

This time – I think not.

Way to go, Rachel!

Heavy Metal

Heavy Metal happenings at Casa Woodworth:

Hannah’s latest cake creation – can you hear how really moist the chocolate was?  I expect to munch cake like this on my stairway to heaven.

Keith and Lois loaded his truck (next year: her truck) with 268 lbs. of crushed aluminum cans to recycle, netting $140 for his tool fund.

Our 5-ton downstairs air conditioner has gone out twice in two weeks, and we know it’s on its last legs.  Kill.  Me.  Now.

The happiest heavy metal news of all:  After wrecking it 69 days ago, Rachel’s 2600 lb. Ford Focus is tonight home from the shop.   Julia and her best friend Toni were thrilled to make its re-acquaintance.
